EV Charging Time Calculator

How long it actually takes to charge your car — compare home, fast, rapid and ultra-rapid speeds side by side.

Your Charge

DC rapid/ultra-rapid charging tapers off above ~80%, so times beyond that are slower than this simple estimate.

How this is calculated

Charging time is approximated as the energy needed to reach your target charge level, divided by the charger's power rating: Time (hours) = kWh needed ÷ Power (kW). This gives an accurate estimate for AC charging (home, fast) across most of the charge range, and for DC rapid/ultra-rapid charging up to roughly 80%. Above 80%, DC charging speed tapers significantly to protect the battery, so real times run longer than this simple estimate for the final 20%.

Once you know how long a charge takes, use the cost calculator to see what that charge costs at your own electricity rate, or the road trip calculator to plan charging stops on a longer journey.

Why isn't this exact?

Real charging curves depend on the specific vehicle, battery temperature, state of charge and the charger itself — manufacturers publish 10-80% times for a reason, since that's the range where charging speed stays closest to the charger's rated power. Treat this tool as a planning estimate, not a guarantee.

Estimates for guidance only — actual charging times vary by vehicle, battery condition, ambient temperature and charger behaviour.
